The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson is currently accepting applications for its 2018 grant cycle. The organization began accepting letters of inquiry on Jan. 2. The deadline is Jan. 15.

In the last two years, the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson has invested more than $3 million in grants and additional health-related funding. Grants are awarded annually for projects that are focused on solutions to some of Wilson’s greatest health challenges.

Priority consideration may be given to eligible organizations who implement evidence-based program models that identified as having significant outcomes in one of the four areas of focus which include adolescent pregnancy, alcohol and substance abuse, obesity and sexually transmitted diseases. Information regarding this year’s grant cycle can be found at healthcarefoundationofwilson.org or by calling 252-281-2105.

Denise O’Hara, executive director of the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, said as the agency continues grant investments in the community, it is also working with partners to define objectives and seek out new solutions and strategic directions to increase impact and address Wilson’s greatest health concerns.

“Our mission is to invest in collaborative efforts that influence and measurably improve the health and wellness of the greater Wilson community,” O’Hara told Wilson County commissioners Monday. “We do this by prioritizing grant funding for projects that focus on sustainable solutions with measurable outcomes with partners who are clearly focused on the same goal.”

O’Hara also shared an update with commissioners Monday while recognizing outgoing Healthcare Foundation of Wilson board members including past board chair Dr. Frank Batten, Tommy Shingleton, John Tilton and David West.

She expressed appreciation for their service and guidance they provided in the early years.

Three new board members were presented to commissioners for approval. Those members included Krystal Cox, Ken Jones and Rosario Ochoa.

Two existing Healthcare Foundation board members were also approved for the joint venture board. They are John Anthony and Paula Benson.
