SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Barton College men’s golf team teed off the spring portion of its schedule with a 10th-place finish out of 20 teams at the Lincoln Memorial University Spring Intercollegiate Kickoff.

The Bulldogs posted a score of 53-over-par 917 in the 54-hole tournament on the par-72, 7,136-yard course at St. John’s Golf that wrapped up Tuesday. Barry claimed victory with a score of 31-over 895, topping host Lincoln Memorial by nine strokes.

Bulldogs blow lead, match at UDC

WASHINGTON — A five-goal lead in the second quarter wasn’t enough to sustain the Barton men’s lacrosse team to its first victory of the season as host University of District of Columbia rallied to tie the score before pulling out a 17-16 overtime victory.

The Bulldogs, now 0-2, charged to a 3-0 lead on unassisted goals by Jake Copio, B.J. Wilson and Alexander Czibur, before going up 6-0 on Mason Cheney’s unassisted goal seconds into the second quarter. But the Firebirds (1-1) fought back, scoring four straight goals in the fourth quarter to take a 16-15 lead with 3:41 left to play.

However, Barton’s Mark Crawford got the equalizer a little more than a minute later, sending the match to overtime.

However, the extra session lasted just 49 seconds as UDC’s Zander Torres found the net for his fourth goal and the sudden victory.

Crawford and Copio each scored four goals for Barton, which held a 49-31 advantage in shots. Bulldogs sophomore Trevor Witholt came up with seven saves in goal.

Barton returns to Electric Supply Company Field for a match against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at 2 p.m.
