Despite taking 19 shots, including eight on frame, the Barton College women’s soccer team was unable to put one into the goal in its NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas home opener Wednesday evening.
The good news for the Lady Bulldogs is that visiting Converse College was just as unsuccessful and the teams settled for a scoreless draw after playing 110 minutes, including a pair of overtime periods.
The Lady Bulldogs, now 1-2-2 overall and 0-0-2 in conference outings, nearly doubled the shooting output of the Valkyries (1-1-2, 0-0-1 CC), who were playing their conference opener. However, Converse was able to put six shots on frame, including two in the second OT session. Barton goalkeeper Haley Sauls recorded two of her six saves to thwart Converse in the final overtime.
Forward Laisy Scardazzi registered seven of Barton’s shots while sophomore midfielder Rebekah Beal sent three toward the goal.
Keeper Rachel Stalford made eight saves for Converse.
The Lady Bulldogs will host nationally No. 22-ranked Limestone on Saturday at 2 p.m.
