MURFREESBORO — Host Chowan University had no answer for Barton College’s “Twin Towers” in Tuesday’s NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas women’s basketball matchup.

Lady Bulldogs junior 6-foot-1 center Shanika Peterkin and sophomore 6-0 power forward Jami Tham-Morrobel each scored 26 points as part of a double-double as Barton rolled to an 88-58 win, its fifth straight and 11th out of the last 12 games.

Barton, now 18-5 overall, improved to 15-3 and remained in second place behind idle Belmont Abbey (21-2, 16-1 CC). The Hawks fell to 4-18 and 4-14, respectively.

Peterkin added 11 rebounds and three blocks while shooting 62.5% (10 of 16) from the floor. Tham-Morrobel was even more accurate, connecting on 8-of-12 shots (66.7%) from the floor as the Lady Bulldogs shot 47.5% (29 of 61) for the game.

Barton also made 25-of-34 free-throw attempts for 73.5% accuracy, led by Tham-Morrobel’s 10-of-12 showing.

Sophomore Akira Wiggins added 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Mariah Coker’s 13 points led Chowan, which shot just 30.8% (20 of 65).

Barton used a 12-0 run midway the second quarter to pull away to a 47-39 halftime advantage. Fueled by Peterkin and Tham-Morrobel, the Lady Bulldogs outscored Chowan 10-2 over the first six minutes of the second half to seize control of the game.

The Lady Bulldogs will visit North Greenville on Saturday in Tigerville, South Carolina.
