Jordyn Brown and Rebekah Beal combined for three goals and two assists to lead the Barton College women’s soccer team to its first 2017 win, a 3-0 victory against visiting Shaw University of Raleigh on Wednesday evening.
The Lady Bulldogs forged a 2-0 halftime lead in dealing Shaw its second loss without a win.
Brown opened the scoring in the 34th minute, rebounding a shot off Shaw goalkeeper Shianna Duplantis.
In the 40th minute, Beal headed in a cross from the right side from Brown to stake Barton to its 2-0 halftime margin.
Brown, with two goals, concluded the scoring in the 72nd minute after taking a pass into the box from Beal.
Brown managed two goals and an assist, while Beal contributed a goal and an assist.
Barton posted a 11-6 margin in shots and goalkeeper Haley Sauls was credited with four saves. Duplantis notched eight saves for Shaw.
