BOYDS, Md. — The Barton College men’s soccer team reached the scoreboard early in its game with the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday, but three unanswered goals from the Firebirds doomed the Bulldogs to a 3-1 setback at Maryland SoccerPlex.

Barton, which lost its third straight match after beating nationally-ranked Tusculum in its opener, fell to 1-3. UDC improved to 3-2.

The freshman tandem of Ruben Mancio and Pol Monells collaborated on Barton’s lone goal in the sixth minute after Mancio played a ball to Monells. Monells gathered and finished for his first collegiate goal from the top of the box.

However, UDC equalized before halftime and picked up two more goals in the second half, in the 51st and 74th minutes.

Barton is home Saturday, facing Limestone in Conference Carolinas play.
