SIMS — A couple faces arson charges in connection to a Wednesday single-wide mobile home fire.
Wilson County sheriff’s detectives arrested 22-year-old Jessica Lynn Ray of Bailey and 27-year-old Robert Luther Strickland of Sims. Ray and Strickland are each charged with second-degree arson and felony breaking and entering.
The two are in a dating relationship, said Wanda Samuel, sheriff’s office chief of staff.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 3:15 p.m. at 6320 Main St. in Sims.
Deputies were then dispatched about two hours later regarding the vacant mobile home fire.
Samuel said detectives spoke with several witnesses who indicated that Ray and Strickland were inside the mobile home before the fire started, watched firefighters put the fire out and returned to the scene after officials had left.
The mobile home, which was destroyed in the blaze, did not have utility service, officials said.
Detectives are still following up on the case and gathering additional information. Ray received a $20,000 secured bond and was in the Wilson County Detention Center as of Thursday. Strickland also received a $20,000 secured bond. He has since posted that bond and been released, Samuel said.
The Rock Ridge and Bailey volunteer fire departments assisted the Sims VFD on Wednesday.
