I am writing this letter because I know what time of year it is and I want to be ahead of the game.

I spent my entire professional life working at Bridgestone-Firestone. I’m from Wilson, and I’m proud of where I’m from, and I’m proud to have worked here my entire life. That said, I think in a world where so few politicians live up to their promises, I want to give credit to one who has.

On two separate occasions, the higher-ups at Bridgestone-Firestone were in talks to move the plant. This would have hurt my life, my family, many others, and it would have hurt our community as well. Both of those times, Jean Farmer-Butterfield went to bat for us and helped make sure our jobs stayed home.

You might disagree with her policies, but it is simply a fact that she has helped keep and create jobs in this community. That cannot be argued. If you want to see how rare that is, just look around.

We have our struggles, but in comparison to neighboring counties, Wilson’s economy has managed to grow, even through the tough times of the past two decades. With all of the fighting going on in Washington and Raleigh, it makes me smile to know that we’ve got someone in Raleigh who has proven that she can deliver for us.
