Six former student-athletes, two former coaches and one former athletic trainer will enter the Fike High Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 21.
The nine will be enshrined at a banquet, beginning at 6 p.m. in the school gym. The inductees are former track, cross-country and golf coach Jim Boykin Jr., a 1968 Fike graduate who also instituted the Fike Hall of Fame; former football and baseball player Gary Farmer (Class of ‘65); former tennis, basketball, soccer and track athlete Ginny Farris Asma (Class of ‘03); former golfer John-Tyler Griffin (Class of ‘05); former tennis, basketball and softball player Susan Smith Johnson (Class of ‘82); former volleyball, basketball and softball player Teresa Atkinson McNeil (Class of ‘86); former football and wrestling coach Richie Pridgen; former football player Stuart Walston (Class of ‘70) and former athletic trainer Ervin Williams (Class of ‘82).
The induction ceremony, the ninth since the hall of fame was founded in 2000, will cap a weekend of activity that includes a reception from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the soccer complex prior to the Golden Demons football game against Rocky Mount on Friday, Oct. 20. Hall of fame members and the induction class of 2017 will be introduced before the football game in Buddy Bedgood Stadium.
Tickets are $20 each and will be available soon at the school as well as at Dick’s Hot Dogs and EB Sports.
