Salvador Guzman’s 19th goal of the 2018 season kicked the DASH United boys soccer team to a 2-1 Senior Night victory against Wilmington Cardinals Homeschool on Monday at J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex.
United erased an 1-0 deficit in boosting its record to 10-6-2 and treating seniors Joe Rasmussen, Avery Fritsh, Josh Murphy and Rene Salas to a win on their night.
DASH knocked in the winning goal some 20 minutes into the second half.
United’s Eric Barry made a run from his center back position to the Wilmington end line and slid the ball across to Guzman, who put away the winning shot.
The Cardinals struck first in the 19th minute. When the DASH goalkeeper strayed beyond the 18-yard box, an alert Wilmington midfielder laced a long ball just under the crossbar.
But United answered some 12 minutes later when Guzman finished a give-and-go pass from Salas.
“The guys really wanted to win for their seniors,” commented DASH coach Steve Barry. “Wilmington has a few really talented players; so there were some fun individual battles to watch. You don’t always win Senior Nights, so it was good to pull this one out.”
DASH will be back in action Tuesday night at Gillette against Wilson Prep.
On Sept. 11, DASH clipped the Tigers by a 2-1 score on the Gillette pitch.
United’s scheduled Thursday game against Raleigh Grace Christian was not played due to the remnants of Hurricane Michael.
