RALEIGH — John Manson Webb Crute Jr., 79, died peacefully Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at his home.
Mr. Crute was born Jan. 20, 1939 in Wilson, a son of John Manson Webb Crute and Kathryn Fulghum Crute.
He is preceded in death by his son, John Manson Webb Crute III; his parents; and a sister, Ann Lancaster King.
Surviving are his three daughters, Mary Crute Crumpler (Burks) of Raleigh, Adair Phifer Crute, LaJolla, California and Nancy Holcombe Crute of Del Mar, California; three grandsons, Edward Phifer Hutchison, Edward Burks Crumpler and Webb Crute Crumpler; and his brother, Edwin Fulghum Crute (Jackie) of Beulaville.
Mr. Crute graduated from Davidson College with the class of 1961 and spent the next two years at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. On his return to North Carolina, he began his brokerage career at Merrill Lynch in Raleigh and worked as a stockbroker in Raleigh for the next 27 years. After retirement Mr. Crute traveled across the United States and eventually settled in Texas, in 2016 he returned to Raleigh.
“Johnny’s” colorful personality will long be remembered and missed by those who knew him.

A private service will be held in Wilson at a later date.
