A Wilson man faces charges after police say he robbed a man and stabbed him Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Ward Boulevard at 2 a.m.

While police were responding to the scene, they were redirected to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol station on Goldsboro Street, officials said.

The victim had ran for help and found a state trooper at the office, according to police.

When police arrived, they spoke to 25-year-old Marvin F. Rodriquez, who was suffering from a stab wound to his neck, said Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Rodriquez told police that a man robbed him while he was pumping gas in the 800 block of Ward Boulevard. Rodriquez chased the man and fought him, according to police.

During the fight, Rodriquez told police the robber stabbed him in the neck, Stroud said.

Rodriquez, of Wilson, was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.

On Monday, police were able to identify the suspect in the case as 50-year-old Reginald K. Deberry, who also had two outstanding arrest warrants on larceny charges, officials said.

Police searched for Deberry and found him walking in the area of Hines and Henry streets, Stroud said.

Deberry ran away but was arrested later. Police said they also seized a knife during the arrest.

Deberry is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was also served with two outstanding misdemeanor larceny warrants.

Deberry, of Wilson, received a $16,000 secured bond.

Police ask anyone with information to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
