Kaitlyn Adams had 28 points to send the host Forest Hills girls basketball team to a win Thursday with a 39-25 win over Elm City in the season opener for both teams.

TiAsia Taylor added five points for the Lady Bucks. For Elm City, Avery Lentz led the way with nine points. Nevaeh Wilder tossed in seven.

Forest Hills travels to Toisnot on Monday, while Elm City faces South Edgecombe in its home opener.

Elm City clips Forest Hills 42-31

Drew Pittman led a balanced scoring effort for the Elm City boys basketball team Thursday in a 42-31 win at Forest Hills.

Pittman’s 12 points led the Vikings in their opener, with Devin Brown and Bryson Summerlin getting eight and six points, respectively.

Scorers were not available for Forest Hills, which lost its first contest.

Darden boys thump Springfield

The Darden boys basketball team won its season opener Thursday afternoon with a 62-40 victory over visiting Springfield.

Johntavious Murray’s 17 points led the Trojans, with Julian Ellis adding 12.

Daidien Sutton tallied a double-double in theloss for the Wildcats, netting 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jahvonne Williams had 10 points for Springfield.

Darden visits West Edgecombe on Monday as Springfield is home to Speight.

Lady Chargers take first loss, stumble against New Life

RALEIGH — The Wilson Christian girls basketball team concluded its 2018 slate with its first loss in nine games, a 21-13 defeat at the hands of the New Life Storm on Friday. 

Chloe Villaverde had six points for Wilson Christian (8-1), while Patsy Price tallied five.

WCA will play again as a combined team on Jan. 18, 2019 when it hosts Faith Christian.

Cyclones even record, topple Wayne Christian 

Three Community Christian School players tallied double figures Thursday afternoon in leading the Cyclones to a 39-30 win over Wayne Christian inside Barney Williamson Gymnasium.

Bryce Pittman had 14 points for the Cyclones (3-3), with Ayden Smith and Seth Huston each adding 10.

CCS plays host to DASH United on Friday, Dec. 14.

Speight blitzes West Edgecombe 51-6

ROCKY MOUNT —  Daneesha Briggs had a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, sending the Speight girls basketball team to a resounding 51-6 win at West Edgecombe on Friday in the season opener for both teams.
