WILMINGTON — SouthWest Edgecombe senior guard and Radford University signee Keishon Porter was selected along with other top talent to represent the state in the upcoming 2020 Carolinas Classic, the selection committee for the game announced Wednesday.
The all-star game, an event sponsored in collaboration between the North Carolina Coaches Association and the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association since 1998, pits the best from North Carolina and South Carolina against each other every year at the conclusion of basketball season. This year, the game will be held on March 28 at Hoggard High School in Wilmington.
The 2020 team will be head coached by Shelby Crest’s Brad Levine and assisted by Winterville South Central’s Chris Cherry.
Porter will be joined by fellow 2-A Eastern Plains Conference players Justin Wright and Samage Teel from Farmville Central and a group of talented players from elsewhere in the state. The other players selected are Nick Farrar of Apex Friendship High; Silas Mason from Greensboro Ben L. Smith, Kalib Matthews of Henderson Collegiate; Tristan Maxwell and Trayden Williams of North Mecklenburg; Dean Reiber of Northwest Guilford and Traymond Willis-Shaw of Fayetteville Westover.
With one more game left in the regular season, Porter is averaging 22.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, which leads the Cougars in both categories.
