Blayke Batten helped her North Johnston High softball team reach the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2-A Eastern championship series last week, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.

Blayke, the Lady Panthers’ junior shortstop, went 3 for 4, including a two-run home run, in their 8-4 defeat of South Lenoir in the third round Tuesday. She helped turn a pivotal double play late in North Johnston’s 5-2 fourth-round win against Bartlett Yancey on Friday.

The daughter of Krista and Chris Batten of the Rock Ridge community, Blayke has a 3.36 GPA at North Johnston, where she is a member of National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. Blayke also plays volleyball for the Lady Panthers.

She volunteers at Rock Ridge Elementary School and plays travel softball for the Carolina Flames Elite 18U team. Blayke works with players on the Flames younger 10U and 12U teams as well.
