Junior Nina Bohunska helped her North Johnston High girls tennis team win a pair of key matches last week to remain atop the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference standings, making her this week’s Thomas Law Attorneys Student-Athlete of the Week.
Nina won both her singles matches and teamed with Emily Benedict to win at No. 2 doubles as the Lady Panthers defeated Nash Central and Beddingfield to take control of the EPC race at 6-0. Nina is unbeaten in 13 outings at No. 1 singles and she is 9-1 at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles.
A foreign exchange student from Slovakia’s capital city of Bratislava, Nina made all As and Bs on her first report card at North Johnston. The daughter of Marian and Margitay Bohunska of Bratislava, she is residing with Lisa and Rob Glover of Pine Level and their three children.
She has done volunteer work with the local animal shelter and plans to run track and field for the Lady Panthers.
While Nina admits she has missed her family and friends and Slovakia, she marveled at the friendliness of the people she has met in North Carolina and like many teenagers here, she has a discovered a new favorite food: “cheddar hamburgers” from Cook-Out.
