Special themed nights make Tobs baseball games even more fun and draw fans, young and old, to enjoy each attraction planned from special food to fireworks.

Sara Killeen, assistant general manager, said the promotions give fans an extra incentive to go to the ballpark. She wants families to consider the games at Fleming Stadium a prime entertainment spot for families this summer.

Many popular events are returning this season, including the seventh annual beer and barbecue festival on Saturday, June 2.

Killeen said 20 cookers are expected that day for the N.C. Pork Council-sanctioned whole-hog cookout. There will also be 10 beer vendors through R.A. Jeffreys on hand providing beer samples.

Killeen said the beer and barbecue festival is very popular with Tobs fans.

Military and Local Heroes Appreciation Night is also a crowd-pleaser, Killeen said. This year’s event, on July 19, will include a guns and hoses charity softball game and an enlistment ceremony.

Special events give the Tobs team a chance to give back and be part of the community. For instance, honored elementary school students will be recognized June 5 at Read Around the Bases. On June 7, middle school students will be recognized for reading achievements at Swing for the Fences, on the same night as School’s Out for Summer Kickoff.

And on June 24, the Tobs will host the sixth annual Home Run for Hunger Celebration. Fans can get a free ticket with four non-perishable food items that will be donated to local food shelters. A family of four gets in free with 10 food items. This year’s goal is 20,000 pounds of food, Killeen said.
