ELM CITY — Mr. Wade Oliver “Bud” Winstead, 71, has completed his earthly journey.
Mr. Winstead transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Curis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilson.
He was born in Nash County on Jan. 14, 1947 to the late Horace Reid and Nellie Gray Winstead.
He received his education in the Wilson County public school system.
After graduating from Frederick Douglass High School in Elm City, Wade served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged from service on May 15, 1968.
During Wade’s working years, he served as a machine operator at Bridgestone-Firestone Tires Co.
Early in life, Wade met, dated and later married the love of his life, Hildagard Barnes-Winstead.
Mr. Winstead was preceded in death by his parents; Horace Reid and Nellie Gray Winstead; his loving sister, Linda Reid Williams; and his loving brother, Charlie Broadie.
A celebration of life service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in First Missionary Baptist Church, 6211 E. Langley Road, Elm City. Pastor Mark M. Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Hamilton Burial Gardens, 1603 Lane St. Extension, Wilson.
A public viewing will be held 4 - 7 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church, 6211 E. Langley Road, Elm City.
Mr. Winstead leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his loving wife and caretaker of the home, Hildagard Barnes-Winstead; his son, Jason Winstead Sr. (Shauana) of Salt Lake City, Utah; his daughter, Jacquia Winstead of Charlotte; his sisters, Delores Walker of San Antonio, Texas, Lenora Coley (Russell) of Wilson, Addie Holeman and Robbin Tenner, both of Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Cierra Artis (Rakim) of Wilson, Jason Winstead Jr. of Elm City, Simone Jackson and Wade Winstead II, both of Salt Lake City, Utah; his great-grandchildren, Jamari’ah “Do-Booty” Lucas, Aaleiyah Artis and Winter Evans, all of Wilson and Jason “PJ” Winstead III of Raleigh; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will assemble at 12:30 p.m. Saturday the residence of Cierra Artis, 3708-B Starship Lane, Wilson, in preparation for the funeral procession.
