Re: “Will terrible roads greet Wilson tourists?” by Horace Joyner, Tuesday:

The city of Wilson works closely with the North Carolina Department of Transportation on the maintenance of Wilson’s streets. Some streets, often those without any traffic signals, are maintained by the city. Other streets, usually larger thoroughfares, are maintained by NCDOT. Tarboro Street is a NCDOT-maintained street. The city has plans to improve Tarboro Street in the near future and is working with DOT to design the larger project.

Although it is not an immediate solution to Mr. Joyner’s concern, Tarboro Street will be improved. We expect to begin developing plans for the larger project in the next year. The city will work with NCDOT to improve the current maintenance condition of Tarboro Street.
